The Gokaido Reader’s Club is an online community serving readers of all nations who share an interest in 20th & 21st century Japanese literature. We read, review, discuss and recommend (or otherwises) Japanese fiction and non-fiction that is available in an English translation.
Club membership is free. Members must register under their own name but may, if they wish, choose a pen name by which they will be known to other Club members and the public.
Any club member can propose a book to read and review. The proposing member recruits (through this website) two or three other Club members to form a readers review group (RRG) for the proposed book. The RRG choose a name for their group and their own schedule. Once the group members have read the book they meet online for a discussion. The discussion is recorded, edited and presented as a podcast for both Club members and the public to listen to, free of charge.
The whole online meeting and recording process is handled by the Club and a producer/moderator takes care of admin and enforces civilised behaviour during the recording. All this at no charge to members in the RRG or the members of the Club. Each pocast includes a members only forum for discussion.
