The Gokaido Reader’s Club is an online community serving readers of all nations who share an interest in 20th & 21st century Japanese literature. We read, review, discuss and recommend (or otherwises) Japanese fiction and non-fiction that is available in an English translation.

Club membership is free. Members must register under their own name but may, if they wish, choose an avatar by which they will be known to other members and the public.

Any club member can propose a book to read and review. The proposing member must recruit (through this website) two or three other club members to form a readers review group (RRG) for the proposed book. The RRG agree a name for the group and their own schedule. Once the group members have read the book they meet online for a discussion. The discussion is recorded. The whole recording process is handled by the Club and a producer/moderator takes care of matters on the day. The recording is uploaded to the site for both members and the public to listen to.
