The Gokaido Reader’s Club in partnership with The Documentary Channel presents a Day in the Life of Kikunoi Honten, a world-renowned 3-Michelin Star kaiseki restaurant that has served traditional Japanese cuisine for over 100 years. In this context kaiseki means a highly structured sequence of small, artfully presented dishes highlighting fresh, seasonal ingredients. In this film the food is clearly wonderful but the film is not about food. It is a window into a culture, a discourse on a philosophy, it is about a physical and aesthetic discipline no less rigorous than bushido . It is a guide- book to a fugitive and hidden world. A world of great interest to those who read modern Japanese literature.
The film is made by Alvin Zhou details can be found in the text accompanying the film.
